Our group studies about supramolecular hydrogels composed of self-assembled nanofibers of small organic molecules (hydrogelators). Precise gelator deign allows us to induce gel-to-sol/sol-to-gel transition in response to chemical stimuli. Recently, we develop multicomponent hydrogel systems containing multiple kinds of hydrogelators and other functional molecules like enzyme (figure). Such functional hydrogel systems will be applicable to a matrix for controlled drug release and regenerative medicine.
