We are studying on the preparation of stimuli-responsive π-conjugated molecules for biological applications. Several pH- and enzyme-responsive fluorescent probes have been developed for detection of specific cancer cells in vitro as well as optical and photoacoustic cancer imaging in vivo. We have also developed dual-responsive probes for high contrast detection of cancer cells without false positive signals from normal cells. Cancer stem cell visualization utilizing turn-on fluorescence probes is one of hop topics in our laboratory.
